13 Day Southern Australia & Tasmania Discovery
Delve deep into the natural splendor, entrancing culture, and sophisticated allure of Australia’s southern coast. From seaside Perth to artsy Adelaide, from stylish Melbourne to the wild heart of Tasmania, this adventure opens up a side of Australia that other travelers overlook.

We begin on the shores of the Indian Ocean in Perth, the sunshine capital of Australia. Step out and enjoy the city’s balmy Mediterranean-like climate on a private tour of scenic sites like beautiful Kings Park and idyllic Cottesloe Beach before exploring the cosmopolitan Fremantle neighborhood and the fascinating Western Australia Maritime Museum. The day ends on a pleasant note with an afternoon cruise through Perth along the scenic Swan River.

To the south of Perth lies Margaret River, a country town that, thanks to its Bordeaux-esque terroir, has become Australia’s leading premium wine region. Here, you’ll visit Leeuwin Estate, a winery famed for its excellent vintages, concert series, and award-winning restaurant overlooking a forest of towering karri trees. You’ll be treated to a private wine tasting featuring Leeuwin’s iconic Art Series wines before a magnificent three-course lunch.

The journey continues 1,300 miles (1,600 kilometers) to the east in Adelaide, the first Australian city founded by free settlers. With a private guide, step out and explore this burgeoning hub of art via a tour of its distinctive squares, parks, and gardens, the bluestone mansions and row cottages of its northern reaches, the bustling Central Market, and three unique museums dedicated to crafts, Aboriginal culture, and wine. Later, head out to aptly named Kangaroo Island for an encounter with its namesake marsupials, as maybe even sea lions before bunking down for the night at a finely appointed lodge on the island itself.

Next stop: Melbourne, the capital of Victoria and the most European of Australia’s cities. You’ll get to experience its famous café scene, street culture, and vibrant multiculturalism through a private tour of its boutique-lined laneways, the historic Royal and Block arcades, a pair of stylish covered walkways.

Finally, leave the mainland behind and cross the Bass Strait to Hobart, the capital of ruggedly beautiful Tasmania. Nature is at its rawest down here (roughly one-fifth of the island state’s land is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Area). You’ll witness it first-hand on a private tour of the Tasman Peninsula’s geological wonders and the Port Arthur Historic Site before meeting some of its most famous residents: Tasmanian devils. The adventure ends on a refined note. First, view the fascinating collection of ancient and modern works on display at the Museum of Old & New Art (MONA), followed by lunch at the gallery or in the historic village of Richmond, a preserved colonial settlement situated amid the scenic surroundings of the Coal River Valley wine region.
